Artist's Comments

I really can't remember, but I think issue two of Double Take came out two months after the 1st issue.
...I dunno, sadly, I only have 1 copy of each Double take comic and they are in a box somewhere.

Issue 2 sported a flip tale of Tales of the Realm, and Tommi Trek.

I don't have the credits handy for the book,
but Tommi Trek was Brian Miller's creation.

Tales of the Realm was a fantasy tale that Matt Tyree and I did for fun. It didn't really have any specific direction, and it was a comedy intended to be a showcase of art rather than a spring board.

But, while I was working at Hi-Fi, I got the idea of making Tales of the Realm a story about actors working in Hollywood, in a parallel world where magic existed.

So, the story in this issue of Double Take went on to become an episode of a fantasy TV show that they were filming.
When you read the first issue of Tales of the Realm, you can see this plays off of that.

Anyway, interior credits aside, this was one of 3 covers we did on the book.
we hoped to bump up sales with multiple covers... it didn't work. :D
So, where Issue 1 had 1500 copies sold of 1 cover, issue 2 had 1500 copies sold of 3 covers, meaning only 500 of each cover exists!

Matt Tyree ([link]) penciled, I don't remember who inked, and I colored this cover.
And yes, I really wish I could recolor it... but I would keep the Fall motif I had going on!

I'll post the other 2 covers here in the following days. :)

We stand at a crossroads, idolatry looms, traditional values in jeopardy, truth under siege, and virtue abandoned.

Been tryin'! :)
He's really busy, though, and exclusive to Marvel at the moment.
Who knows what the future will hold; maybe I'll get lucky.
Or I can just blackmail him. That could work too. :D

Nice! Was the texture on the center-characters armor part of the linework?
:iconvalstaples:
Yep, in the lineart.
I rarely add textures to my rendering. I feel if an artists wants texture, they are going to draw it, or at least indicate it.
For me to just throw in textures without prompting, IMO, is insulting.

Love it!

The little touches and flares really make this stand out.
