Incognito 3 - panel breakdown

Description

Here is a breakdown of a panel from the same Incognito page I posted [link] , to show you my approach.

Red:
The shift in background colors is intended to draw the eye.
Notice how the more intense and lighter areas are near the focal point of the panel (the guy with the gun).
You know exactly where you are supposed to be looking due to this overall application of value.

Yellow:
I used the complementary values of orange/yellow against blue/green to insure the guy stood out from the background.
There's no mistaking his independence from the background.

Green:
This is the flow of the panel, or how I want the reader to travel with their eyes.
You enter near the top, and follow the path of the art, and dump out near the bottom right.
Warm to cool, exiting you out of the panel and on to the rest of the page.
Notice how I even have a light blue rack of clothes on top of a darker blue at the end of the path, to insure your eye falls from light to dark, and out the corner of the panel.

Purple:
This is where things tie together.
I have my path of direction, where I want the eye to flow.
I have the complementary contrast of the figure against the background,
and now I have similar values of the figure against my exit point of the panel to create harmony across the entire panel.

Yes, believe it or not, my mind is thinking that much about it.
I'm not always successful, but I do I have a reason behind what I'm doing.
Most of it is instinctual, and then I just tweak the instincts to achieve what I want. :)
