These are 2 new books from Rob Zombie himself!
He's writing them, just like he did when we published SpookShow International,
which was collected as the Haunted World of El Superbeasto trade (which is being reprinted this December),
which was the inspiration for the just-released Haunted World of El Superbeasto animated feature on DVD.
I'm stoked to be on a new Rob Zombie comic.
But now we need the right artists for the gigs.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my last journal entry.
These 2 new projects are the ones you were submitting for.
There is lots of great art from all of you, but we're still looking for artists who are the right fit for these books.
We're looking for a specific style, that we won't really know until we see it.
Therefore, I need 2 damn good sequential comic book artists for these books.
The first is a monthly comic book project. We had an awesome artist already, but he unfortunately can't commit right now (which is a huge bummer).
It's a dark moody human drama. No super heros or any of that.
The style has to be a somewhat dark & gritty, somewhat urban-inspired mix.
I don't want to make comparisons to other artists, so I'll just hope for the best based on that style description.
Drawing sexy women is a MUST!
And you have to be comfortable drawing adult themes. nudity, sex, violence, all that naughty stuff.
The second project is more of a monster inspired project.
This one requires a very dark, violent scratchy, detailed type style.
You also need to know how to sex up your women, but that's not a focus on this particular project.
This one is a graphic novel project.
Expect lots of violence, probably some nudity.
NO pinup artists!!
You need to be a skilled story teller, who can handle editorial direction/changes,
deliver self-inked or very clean pencils, that will go straight to color (as I'm coloring these projects),
and you definitely have to be able to keep a monthly deadline!
These are both high profile projects, so I need SERIOUS inquiries only!
And yes, there is compensation. I already dread questions from people who don't really know who I am, asking me if this pays out.
If you don't know who I am, or my history and reputation in comics, please do a Google search on Val Staples.
If you are interested, and think you have what it takes,
just reply to this journal entry saying something like "I'm interested!"
I'll take a look at your Deviant Art gallery.
And if I think you might be right for either of the books, I'll send you a private message.
If I don't contact you, please don't take it personal, as I'm looking for something VERY specific. You may be the best artist I've seen, but not have the style I'm looking for.
It's one of those "I'll know the style when I see it" situations.
As I reply to people, I'll be hiding their comments.
The submission door remains open on this until I say I've found the 2 artists I need.
So until you see that, people can continue submitting unless I've already spoken with you.
Thanks!
Thanks!!!
------------
I'm bringing the submissions to a close.
A TON of great art was posted, and thanks to everyone who submitted!
I'm sorting out everything on my end, and then it's all in Rob's hands.
The artists for the projects will be revealed when a press release is issued for each project, probably a month or two down the road.
Thanks again, everyone!
